Bob Jackson Cycles started in 1935 and was one of the legendary British bike manufactures during the post war British bike boom years. They continued to manufacture bikes in their Leeds factory up until 2020 or so.
Ben’s grandmother purchased this bike from the Bob Jackson workshop in Leeds in 1980, toured Europe on it with her husband then bought it home. It stayed in the family but sat un used for decades. Over the years many of the original components had drifted away.
Ben asked us to restore it as a gift for his wife, Susan. We did a practical restoration, upgrading many of the components to make it a useful daily commuter. We converted to flat bars and installed Shimano XT derailleurs and shifters (To allow indexed shifting) We laced up new wheels with Velo Orange rims and installed velo Orange fenders. The original paint had a clear lacquer top coat which had turned brown and crinkled over the years. We carefully buffed off the brown lacquer to uncover the original color coat below.
