Bob’s father bought this 1952 Rollfast for him in 1958. He used it for several years for his newspaper route. Then it stayed in the family and was ridden every year in their town’s 4th of July parade. It had been poorly restored in the 1990s then sat untouched in a garden shed at Bob’s midtown co op for 20 years. Bob asked Nomad to restore it for his grandson to continue the 4th of July parade tradition.
The bike arrived in very poor condition. Every part was rusted out and the 90s restoration had replaced most of the components with incorrect 90s era cheap parts (like shimano hubs and metric hardware.) We replaced the bent forks and found a correct chainguard and rear rack. We replaced almost all of the components with rust free, period correct components. We filled in the rust holes in the sheet metal with brass. We had the frame and sheet metal powder coated then drew and used paint masks to add the white patterns to the frame and tank then a vintage pinstriping tool to add the pinstripes at the fenders. We laced up new wheels with correct Torrington spokes and a Bendix 2 speed rear hub. Bob Ujszaszi restored the original Persons saddle. In the end it came out not to shabby.
